DJ / Producer / Twitch DJFrom the Rhine-Main region to the decks
JayCan grew up in Germany's Rhine-Main region. At home, ABBA and James Last played; Depeche Mode and Kraftwerk opened the door to electronic music.
Frankfurt's Music Hall and the emerging EBM sound turned that curiosity into a direction. After months of recording mixtapes at home, he played his first paid set at the after-hours club Charly's in the early 1990s.
Learning to tell a story
The Rhine-Main club scene put him close to DJs and producers who shaped electronic music. Torsten Stenzel, known as York, became a formative mentor: JayCan spent time in his studio watching tracks take shape.
He learned to hear Trance like orchestral music, with build-ups, release and a climax that gives the journey its meaning.
Vinyl nights and long mornings
JayCan started DJing in 1991. His club history includes Palazzo in Bingen, Aladins in Augsburg and a long residency at Charly's in Ingelheim, where the Rhine-Main after-hours crowd kept dancing into the morning.
He learned on vinyl and Technics turntables: matching records by ear, shaping transitions by hand and building long sets from warm beginnings to melodic peaks. That instinct still guides his performances today.
From the booth to the airwaves
Radio opened the door to listeners beyond the club. Symphonic Emotions on AH.FM explored melodic and orchestral Trance. Silent Shore Records' Closer to You and Advanced Trance Sounds on Discovertrance followed, alongside international guest mixes.
From 2017, Mixcloud became another home for his sets. Symphonic Emotions 2.0, Life is a Soundtrack and The Classix Podcast each explore a different side of his record collection. In 2020, he brought that live energy to Twitch.
Rhythm first
In the studio, JayCan starts with percussion. He builds the beat from individual parts, often using 20 to 35 layers, before adding atmosphere, synths and melody. Arrangement and filtering come later; he checks the track in mono before opening it up in stereo.
Collaboration is part of that process. JayCan shapes the idea and the structure, then works with musicians who bring their own melodic strengths to the track.
A night that became a track
He met ReOrder through internet radio and later brought him to his first gig in Austria at Vienna in Trance. After the show, they sketched the first version of "Come With Me to Varanasi" and completed it together later.
Released on Silent Shore Records in 2009, "Come With Me To Varanasi" was followed by "Sunset On Biana Beach" in 2010. JayCan recalls the first track being named Tune of the Week and Future Favorite on Armin van Buuren's A State of Trance.
Shared ideas in the studio
His catalogue connects many musical friendships: Rino Da Silva on "From Sky To Heaven" and "You Can't Stop Me Now", Zoey on "Inside My Soul", Chris Coloré on "Consciousness" and Drunken Zilla on "The Robot Mind".
"Offshore" brings together JayCan, Rino Da Silva and York Stenzel. Tyrexana joins "Awakening Nature". The music moves between vocal Trance, driving Techno and melodic spaces in between.
An ear for emotion
York, Taucher, Ferry Corsten, DJ Dag, Sven Väth, Armin van Buuren, Andy Blueman, Solarstone, Faithless and Stoneface & Terminal all belong to his musical compass. Beyond electronic music, he draws inspiration from classical arrangements, northern ballads, Hans Zimmer's soundtracks and expressive voices such as Elles de Graaf.
Techno Meets Trance
His signature sound lives where Techno's drive meets Trance's melodic lift. JayCan created Techno Meets Trance as a space for that crossover and also appears as a warm-up DJ for Vibez Live.
Every set starts anew
For a club night or a Twitch stream, he chooses a handful of opening tracks and lets the mood guide the rest. He crosses genres, reads the room and builds each set from scratch.
The Saturday Stream Team gives him room to play this way and to share the experience with a community of DJs and listeners.
For JayCan, community means showing up for each other: exchanging feedback, supporting other DJs and giving listeners a place where they feel welcome. Honesty, curiosity and the freedom to cross genres matter to him.
Beyond the booth
Away from music, JayCan paints miniature figures, cooks and spends time with his dog Nero. The curiosity that drives him at the decks carries into the rest of his life.
His miniature worlds include Warhammer 40,000 and The Lord of the Rings. Fantasy, science fiction and thrillers fill his reading and viewing list; in the kitchen he enjoys Asian food, Mexican dishes, barbecue and his own creations.
